BCS MPs boycott Parliament sittings. Political analysts' views
MPs from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) faction have announced that they are boycotting Thursday and Friday sittings of Parliament. They are unhappy that none of their legislative initiatives are accepted by the parliamentary majority. The former Șor party also said they would not attend the parliament sessions because of illegal draft laws voted by the majority. On the other hand, the parliamentary majority claims that the opposition's actions demonstrate their attitude towards parliamentary work. Political analysts describe the opposition's actions in boycotting sittings as a political game.
BCS deputy Vlad Bătrâncea said it was a precedent in the work of the legislature when for two years the opposition had not been supported in promoting initiatives by the parliamentary majority.
"Unfortunately, for the umpteenth time, all initiatives have been rejected and we consider this practice to be harmful. Never before in the history of Moldova's parliamentarianism has the opposition been unable to initiate a debate or a hearing on major issues for two years. From this point of view, the faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists boycotts today's and tomorrow's meeting and we traditionally leave you a party meeting", said Vlad Bătrânea.
Also on Thursday, former Șor Party MPs announced in a statement that they will continue to boycott parliamentary sittings "in protest against the wrong political decisions taken by the parliamentary majority, which endanger the security of the country and the well-being of citizens".
Asked to comment on the opposition's statements, PAS MP Oazu Nantoi said the decision speaks to the quality of the opposition's initiatives.
"As is the opposition, so are the initiatives," commented Oazu Nantoi.
Promolex monitoring confirms that opposition initiatives are not supported by the parliamentary majority, the organisation's legal expert Mihaela Duca told Radio Moldova.
"We have noticed that in these two years the opposition drafts have not been examined and debated in the plenary session of the Parliament, which is a negative thing and every time we have suggested that once draft legislation is registered, it should be examined whether it comes from the parliamentary majority or the opposition. At least they should be debated in plenary sessions", explained Mihaela Duca.
In this context, political analyst Vadim Pistrinciuc said that it is a lie that the parliamentary majority has not accepted any opposition bills. On the contrary, according to the expert, PAS MPs supported in particular the social projects proposed by BCS. At the same time, the analyst argues that the opposition, by boycotting the sittings, is playing a political game to destabilise Moldova.
"Secondly, obviously they boycott and leave because we should not pretend that we do not see some things or do not hear them. They openly and fully said that their interest is to destabilize the Republic of Moldova, it is chaos, disunity, enmity. In other words, this is our side of the war. If they use weapons there, we use people, let's call them agents of influence", commented Vadim Pistriniuc.
At the start of Thursday's sitting of the legislature, BCS deputies tabled 10 initiatives. None of them was supported by the majority deputies, i.e. they did not get the necessary number of votes to be included in the agenda and discussed in plenary.
Previously, the BCS and the ȘOR Party have boycotted Parliament sessions.
