Roberta Metsola, in Cotroceni: "Romania belongs to the Schengen area"
Romania belongs to the Schengen area, the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said in Bucharest. The senior European official stated in a press conference, together with President Klaus Iohannis, that there is no justifiable reason not to welcome Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen area and that efforts are being made for this situation to be resolved as soon as possible.
"Romania belongs to the Schengen area and we will continue to promote this. The situation will last as little as possible. I also said last week, at the European Council, and I urged all the leaders of the European Governments to fulfil the promises made to this country, 11 years ago. There is simply no justifiable reason not to welcome Bulgaria and Romania into Schengen, as all the conditions for accession are met," said Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
The senior European official stated that efforts are being made to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
"We will make continuous efforts for this to happen in 2023", the head of the European Legislature also declared.
