The Venice Commission about the outlawing of the "Shor" Party: It must be legal, legitimate and proportionate
Outlawing a political party violates fundamental human rights and freedoms, so such a decision should be legal, legitimate and proportionate. The conclusion was formulated in the opinion of the Venice Commission regarding the request of the Chisinau Government to examine the constitutionality of the "Sor" Party.
According to the quoted source, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova is the one that will decide whether the declaration of the political formation outside the law is justified. We remind you that the Government requested the Constitutional Court to verify the constitutionality of the "Sor" Party, with the aim of canceling its registration, accusing it of frequent violations of the law, including through illegal financing actions. The "Sor" party qualifies the Government's approach as an "abuse".
