NATO Summit outcome: Allies will continue their partnership with Moldova to increase our resilience
The results of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, discussed today by our country's officials, representatives of the alliance in the Republic of Moldova, and the Polish ambassador in Chisinau. The Moldovan authorities announced that they want to boost cooperation with NATO to modernise the security and defence sector. For their part, allies in the North Atlantic alliance say they want to help our country respond to challenges and strengthen our resilience.
Ruslan Bolbocean, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau, said that our country's participation in the NATO summit in Vilnius reflects the importance our allies attach to Moldova's security. Bolbocean noted that we need to modernise the army, and this can only happen with the support of the alliance.
"Moldovan authorities want to boost political dialogue and practical cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance. We are interested in making the most of the opportunities offered by NATO to partner states in the framework of various cooperation programmes and instruments to develop their own security and defence capabilities and strengthen their national security," said Ruslan Bolbocean, Secretary of State of the MFAEI.
For her part, the Head of the NATO Liaison Office in our country said that the allies will continue their partnership with the Republic of Moldova to increase our resilience.
"Allies reiterated their strong support for Moldova's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence. They reiterated their call on the Russian Federation to withdraw its army from the Transnistrian region. We continue to work to accelerate projects as part of the package. Moldova's participation in the Summit was important from this aspect as well," said Mihaela Simakova, Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Moldova.
On the other hand, the Polish ambassador in Chisinau stressed that our country must continue its European path and partnership with allies.
"Poland supports Moldova's European aspirations and cooperation with NATO. We believe that this cooperation will enhance Moldova's security. The fact that we have taken the role as a contact person, the embassy, is an important proof that we treat it seriously." said Tomasz Kobzdej, the Polish Ambassador in Chisinau.
At the NATO summit in Vilnius, a joint declaration was signed by the allies, including the Republic of Moldova. The declaration states that NATO calls on Russia to withdraw its troops illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region. The alliance also reiterated its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.
