The Horjan case, to the attention of the OSCE Mission and the Unified Control Commission
The circumstances surrounding the murder of left-wing communist leader Oleg Horjan could be investigated under the aegis of the OSCE. A day after the murder, the mission said it was ready to facilitate interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol in advancing the investigation.
The case was also discussed at a meeting of the Joint Control Commission in Tighina on 20 July. The Chisinau delegation condemned the actions that took the life of a man and called for an investigation in accordance with the law.
Horjan, previously illegally detained by the so-called Tiraspol authorities, was found shot dead in his home in the locality of Sucleia on 17 July. He was taken to his final resting place today.
Moldovan police are investigating the case as a murder offence. Tiraspol has opened a criminal case file and has asked Chisinau for legal assistance in its investigation, and the OSCE mission has called for transparency in the case.
