German Ambassador: The Republic of Moldova has made progress in the reforms implementation that would allow the start of accession negotiations

The Republic of Moldova has made significant progress in the implementation of reforms that would allow the start of accession negotiations to the European Union, the German ambassador in Chisinau, Margret Uebber, told DW. Even if the country is facing several challenges following Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the Government in Chisinau, the diplomat says, is approaching the reforms with great determination.

Margret Uebber noted the importance of reforming the justice system and the fight against corruption. According to her, only in a system based on the rule of law, investors will come to the country and therefore the economy will be able to develop.

The ambassador reiterated that Germany supported the granting of candidate status last summer and is still with our country. We remind that the final decision on the opening of accession negotiations will be taken by the EU at the end of this year. In autumn, the European Commission will present its report on the status of the Republic of Moldova's approach to the EU. It will form the basis of the European Council's decision regarding the opening of accession negotiations.
