European Youth Summer Olympic Festival has started
Moldovan athletes paraded at the opening ceremony of the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, which is taking place in the Slovenian city of Maribor. Athlete Ilia Ciui and swimmer Alexandra Ablovațca carried the flag at the ceremony in the "Ljudski Vrt" stadium.
A total of 25 athletes will represent Moldova at the festival. The Olympic flame was lit by Tim Marovt, an incredible athlete who fractured his spine in 2014 in a surfing accident, but has recovered and now runs marathon races.
The European Youth Olympic Summer Festival 2023 runs until 29 July. The Republic of Moldova will be represented by athletes, swimmers, cyclists, gymnasts, tennis players and judokas.
At the previous edition of the festival, held in Slovakia last year, Moldovan athletes won two bronze medals. Over the years, our country's representatives have won 8 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals at all summer editions.
