Government proposes to the Parliament the extension of the state of emergency for another 60 days

The members of the Government decided to propose to the Parliament the extension of the state of emergency for another 60 days, starting on August 3. The Minister of the Interior, Adrian Efros, motivated the decision by the aggravation of the situation at the borders of the Republic of Moldova with Ukraine, following the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation on the Odesa and Reni regions.

"The Republic of Moldova is only a few kilometers away from these conflict zones, which makes it vulnerable to direct threats. The risks for the country's security are high as a result of both the attacks that happened in close proximity to the NATO border, on the port of Reni, and the recent statements of Russian officials regarding NATO states. In fact, Poland has already deployed additional troops to the eastern border of the state. Moreover, there is a danger of a nuclear accident at the Zaporozhye power plant, which is under the control of Russian troops," the minister said.

According to him, the accidental overflight of the airspace with drones or missiles can affect the territorial sovereignty and public security, energy, land and port communications of the country.

In addition, the suspension of the agreement on the export of grain through the Black Sea basin, imposed by Russia on July 17, the disruption of the maritime logistics chain will lead to an increase in grain transit through the Republic of Moldova. "Also, the Republic of Moldova remains exposed to asymmetric threats and a wide spectrum of presence of hybrid warfare, including the promotion of false information and manipulations for military purposes, foreign espionage and the escalation of inter-ethnic and inter-community violence in tense areas. At the same time, the unjust war in Ukraine could also affect the natural gas and electricity transport infrastructure, preventing supplies to the Republic of Moldova", said Adrian Efros.

During the state of emergency, the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova will issue binding and enforceable provisions for the heads of central and local public administration authorities, economic agents, public institutions, as well as for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and other persons on the territory of our country.

The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova was established on February 24, 2022, with the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Later, it was extended several times.
