"The day when this law of laws, the Supreme Law, was adopted and the history of the independent state of the Republic of Moldova began. We emphasize that this Constitution has an inexhaustible potential and reserve and being at the foundation of laws, legislation, it forms the whole architecture of the constitutional regime in the country," said jurist Valeriu Cuciuc from the Institute of Constitutional Justice.

The final draft of the Constitution was presented to Parliament on 29 July 1994 by Eugen Rusu, then chairman of the Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee.

"We actually presented the final adoption of the Constitution, which took about four months, three readings," says former MP Eugen Rusu.

"The Constitution was adopted as an excellent document. We want to discuss to what extent the Constitution reflects today's situation and what we should do. Look: in France it is the fifth Constitution, that's why we should not be afraid of changes, but we should change it in a scholarly way together with the society", said Petru Lucinschi, former President of Parliament.

"If a Constitution in its spirit and letter is adopted authentically, in the name of and for the people, then it has a long life. The Constitution adopted on 29 July 1994 is precisely in contradiction. It was adopted in the interests of the members of that Parliament. We must return to the Constitution that was adopted by Parliament in the first reading and adjusted to the will of the people through the Declaration of Independence", stresses Alexandru Arseni, PhD in constitutional law.

"Taking into account the period of 1994 and the political conjuncture of the agrarian-socialist Parliament, I believe that we did our best to adopt constitutional provisions that corresponded, but many still correspond to a state based on the rule of law where the individual, the economy and culture are protected", says Eugen Rusu.

The round table presentations were complemented by an exhibition of books and documents on the Constitution.

"We have a young Constitution. There are different opinions that, in some places, it needs to be improved and I believe that this will happen, but today we pay tribute to this Constitution at 29 years, which has served this piece of land the Republic of Moldova", said the director of the National Library, Elena Pintelei.

Adopted on 29 July 1994, the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova entered into force on 27 August 1994.
