The consular section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau temporarily suspends its activity
The consular section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau temporarily suspends its activity, starting from August 5, for technical reasons. Other details and the deadline regarding the application of this measure are not specified by the diplomatic mission, but the announcement is made after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration decided to reduce the number of employees of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau. According to the Ministry, by August 15, 45 people must leave the Republic of Moldova.
By suspending the activity of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau, Moscow is looking for reasons to penalize the Republic of Moldova, PAS deputy Oazu Nantoi told Radio Moldova.
The official emphasized that such situations on the part of Russia are obvious, even if the Republic of Moldova defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Of course, the Russian Federation is looking for asymmetric answers to penalize the Republic of Moldova. It is obvious that it cannot penalize us with a symmetrical response in terms of reducing the number of diplomats simply because there are six people in our whole embassy in Moscow. The Russian Federation is the first to defy international legal norms, and the UN statute, and any agreement within the CIS. We must be aware that sovereignty and national security costs", said deputy Oazu Nantoi.
We remind you that, after information appeared in the public space about alleged espionage systems located on the roof of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Russian ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was presented with Chisinau's decisions regarding the reduction of staff embassy.
The authorities argued the decision saying that the main reason would be to reduce attempts to destabilize the internal situation in the country. Moscow said it would respond, citing the destruction of bilateral relations.
