A new bridge over the Nistru River, which will connect the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, will be built by 2025. It is the cross-border road bridge, in the area of the towns of Cosăuți - Yampil. The construction of the bridge will ensure the connection of the road network through the eastern part of the Republic of Moldova to the trans-European road network, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, who presented the project in plenary. The ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was voted in the final reading by 57 deputies.

The construction of the bridge will ensure the connection of the road network through the eastern part of the Republic of Moldova to the trans-European road network, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu. According to him, this will facilitate trade as well as will increase the role that the Republic of Moldova has as a link between the European Union states and neighboring states.

"Dear colleagues, it is incredible that over 10 years had to pass for the idea of having a bridge over the Nistru in the northern part of the country to reach an agreement signed in 2023. The bridge over the Nistru will meet the needs of citizens for mobility and will boost trade for both Moldova and Ukraine. The feasibility study carried out in 2018 showed that the bridge could be used daily by about 4,600 vehicles, and by 2041 an increase of up to 10,200 vehicles is expected daily," Andrei Spînu said.

According to the Agreement, the Government of Ukraine will ensure the financing of the technical project of the bridge, including its construction and the related infrastructure on its territory, and the Government of the Republic of Moldova will ensure the construction of the related road infrastructure on the territory of our state.

A separate agreement is also to be concluded for the further maintenance of the bridge. The works are to be completed by 2025.

The bridge will have a length of more than 1400 meters, two traffic lanes and two pedestrian sidewalks on both sides. We remind you that, in February last year, the Cabinet of Ministers from Chisinau approved the signing of the Agreement, and construction works were also started then.

They were supposed to be finished within two years, but were stopped due to the war launched by Russia against Ukraine. Thus, the agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine was signed only last month, in Kiev.
