US: Trump not allowed to post evidence of criminal cases he faces on social media
Judge Tanya Chutkan has banned former US President Donald Trump from posting on his social media the evidence against him gathered by prosecutors that refers to Trump's intentions to nullify the outcome of the 2020 election and his instigations that led to the assault on Capitol Hill, reports Agerpres with reference to EFE.
Judge Tanya Chutkan granted the request made by special prosecutor Jack Smith, who asked for a gag order after the Republican made several social media posts about his court case, which the special prosecutor saw as a possible attempt by Trump to intimidate witnesses.
"The defendant and his attorneys will not disclose evidence to any person or entity who is not part of his defence or who may not be a potential witness," the judge wrote in a court document.
Chutkan stressed that all material the prosecution provides during the trial will be subject to a "protective order" and Trump's team will only be able to use it to prepare its defence.
The special prosecutor had warned the judge on Friday about a social media post by Trump in which the Republican threatened, in text written in capital letters: "IF YOU COME AFTER ME, I'M COMING AFTER YOU!". Donald Trump later said he was addressing his political opponents and not witnesses or investigators.
