The Republic of Moldova and Israel could sign a free trade agreement
Chisinau and Tel-Aviv are working to prepare negotiations for the signing of a free trade agreement with Israel, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, in a briefing with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, who is visiting work in Chisinau. According to the head of Moldovan diplomacy, a Free Trade Agreement would be the basis for capitalizing on the existing but untapped economic potential.
*"This will allow us to increase the volume of foreign trade with the State of Israel. In 2022, foreign trade amounted to 22 million dollars, an increase of 70% compared to 2021. This shows the presence of an unexplored commercial potential", said Nicu Popescu, stating that our country is interested in increasing the export of cereals, nuts fresh and dried fruits, juices, carpets and to import mineral fertilizers.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Eli Cohen, said that, in October, the Minister of Agriculture of Israel will arrive in Chisinau. During the visit, a major project in the field of agriculture, a unique project, will be launched. Cohen also announced the launch of direct Chisinau-Tel Aviv air routes. Officials hope that this route will be relaunched in the near future.
Also, Nicu Popescu mentioned that the two countries expressed their interest in our country regarding the liberalization of roaming between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Israel. Currently, 408 companies with Israeli capital are active in the Republic of Moldova, which have invested 67 million lei.
