The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, accuses the Central Electoral Commission of preparing to rig the general local elections in the capital. The mayor wrote on social media that electoral lists will be used for this purpose. More specifically, he mentions that the number of inhabitants of Chisinau municipality has been reduced by more than 113 thousand. And based on this data, the CEC decided to reduce the number of councillors.

In response, the Commission issued a statement stressing that it has become the target of a smear campaign that is being persistently promoted by certain politicians.

The CEC states that the accusations made are unfounded and that these politicians promote falsehoods in the public arena to draw the institution into controversy on political issues.
