Evghenia Guțul, challenged locally and by the EU
EU Ambassador Janis Mazeiks went to Comrat, but did not have any political meetings. He visited an enterprise financed with European money. There is no dialogue with the new Bashkan, Evghenia Guțul, Ambassador Mazeiks said.
European diplomacy will be able to launch the dialogue when the Governor's office is approved by the People's Assembly and the Bashkan is accepted into the government. For now, there are many uncertainties, in particular who Evghenia Guțul represents - the Gagauz or Shor, who has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Moldova and is on the EU's blacklist.
"I think we now need to understand how things will develop. There are still many unclear elements. There is no office of the Bashkan, the Bashkan is not confirmed as a member of the Moldovan government. For any dialogue to develop, we need to know who and what we are dealing with. It is also important for us to understand who she will represent - the Gagauz people or the former "Shor" party, led by a convicted person," said Janis Mazeiks, Ambassador of the European Union.
