British Ministry of Defence: Kremlin may cut funding for Wagner Group

The British Ministry of Defence believes that there is a realistic possibility that Russia may cut funding for the Wagner Group, according to Agerpres, citing Reuters and EFE.

The British Ministry noted on Sunday in a briefing that the Russian state has taken action against some of the business interests of Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, following the group's failed rebellion against the Russian military leadership in June.

"If the Russian state stops paying Wagner, the second most likely funder is the Belarusian authorities," the ministry notes, adding that this would strain the resources of the Belarusian state.

According to the same statement, the Wagner Group is reconfiguring itself in a downsizing, in order to reduce salary costs, against a backdrop of "financial pressure".
