Prime Minister asks for analysis of all serious road accidents in the last 5 years
Moldova's Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, has asked the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, to conduct an analysis of all serious road accidents that have occurred in the last five years. The analysis will look at the profile of the drivers involved in the accidents, as well as the judges who have handled the cases.
"I want to send a message to the corrupt minorities that you cannot claim independence if you do not have legitimacy," Recean said. "You have lost legitimacy, and I want to give you examples that affect specific people. When the police document the same people driving drunk over and over again, and then these people cause accidents that kill other people, I want to see what was behind the decisions of these judges who have justified the release of these people."
It is worth noting that the number of road accidents in Moldova has increased in recent years. As a result, more people are losing their lives or being injured. A serious accident occurred on July 24 in the Botanica district of the capital, where five people were seriously injured. Recently, the 29-year-old driver died in the hospital, leaving behind two minor children.
The driver of the Mercedes that caused the accident was identified and detained a few weeks after the accident.
The newspaper "Ziarul de Gardă" published an investigation that showed that the driver had been involved in several criminal cases after he was caught driving drunk.
In 2016, he was pardoned, and then later tried in criminal court for hooliganism, but he again escaped punishment because the statute of limitations had expired.
Recean's request for an analysis of serious road accidents comes amid growing public anger over the issue of road safety in Moldova. In recent years, there have been a number of high-profile accidents that have resulted in fatalities.
