Moldova's Parliament passes amendments to the State Security Law
Parliament has passed amendments to the State Security Law, revising provisions related to the determination of risks, threats, and special dangers to the state.
"Thus, it is proposed that Article 4 of the State Security Law should expressly provide for actions that pose a special danger to the security of the country. These include the usurpation of state power, the change of the constitutional order through violence, cyber threats or incidents, the influence of electoral processes for the purpose of promoting their own interests by foreign states, unconstitutional entities or organised crime, treason, the formation of illegal organisations or groups, etc.", the Legislature's communiqué reads.
The legislative initiative belongs to the deputies of the "Action and Solidarity Party" faction Andrian Cheptonar, Ion Șpac and Roman Roșca. The bill was supported in the second reading with the vote of 54 deputies of the PAS faction.
According to the authors, the legislative amendments are necessary to avoid the discrepancy between the State Security Law and the Law on the Intelligence and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova (SIS), recently adopted by Parliament.
