Diaspora Congress brings together Moldovans from all corners of the world

The 10th edition of the Diaspora Congress took place today at the Palace of the Republic of Moldova, bringing together Moldovans from all over the world. The event was an opportunity for participants to discuss with state authorities the problems they face, possible solutions, and how they can contribute to the development of the country.

Alexandru Sîrbu, who has been living in the United States of America for nine years, said that he plans to launch an organisation that will carry out projects for the benefit of the diaspora. Adriana Rotaru, who has been living in Belgium for 15 years, founded the Run Pink Moldova community, which provides wigs and counselling to women with breast cancer in the Republic of Moldova. The Cepois, who are based in Brussels, are among the more than 150 Moldovans active in the European Parliament and the European Commission. They are willing to offer their experience to help the Republic of Moldova make progress in the process of negotiations for the accession to the European Union.

The representatives of the Bessarabian community in Kazakhstan, descendants of the victims of the Stalinist deportations, said that they are committed to preserving their home traditions. Several young people who went to study abroad said that they are always connected with what is happening in the country through student communities.

About 300 citizens of the Republic of Moldova settled abroad participated in the event. The Diaspora Congress is part of the Diaspora Days, which are being held in Chisinau on August 18-19. On Saturday, the country will host the Diaspora Business Forum.
