Moldova sees increase in foreign visitors
The number of tourists and excursionists in the Republic of Moldova increased by more than 22% in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The data shows that the Republic of Moldova was visited by more than 16.5 thousand tourists in January-June, an increase of almost 70 percent compared to the same period last year. The data also show that almost 188 thousand Moldovan visitors went on holiday or on trips abroad through travel agencies. And 39 thousand visited tourist sites in our country.
According to official statistics, more than 42 percent of Moldovan tourists preferred a holiday in Turkey. Almost 17 percent opted for Egypt. About 27 percent of the total number of Moldovan tourists visited Bulgaria and Romania, and four percent - Greece.
Revenues of travel agencies and tour operators also increased in the first half of the year. Thus, more than 1.2 billion lei, or almost 39 percent more than in January-June last year, were collected from outbound tourism. Receiving tourism receipts amounted to just over 15 million lei and domestic tourism to over 77 million lei.
