Albot eyes ninth US Open appearance
Moldovan tennis player Radu Albot will face British youngster Jack Draper in the first round of the 2023 US Open, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) announced on Friday.
Albot, ranked 105th in the world, is a veteran of the ATP Tour with over 240 career matches played and one title to his name. Draper, who is 12 years younger, has played just 55 matches and has yet to win a tournament.
It will be Albot's ninth appearance in the main draw of the US Open. His best result at the tournament came in 2017, when he reached the third round.
For simply appearing in the main draw and playing in the first round, Albot will earn $81,500. If he advances to the next round, his prize money will increase to $123,000.
The US Open begins on Monday, August 28, and runs through September 10. The defending champion is Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.
