Moldova's European agenda and regional security discussed by Maia Sandu at Bled Strategic Forum

Moldova's European agenda and regional security are addressed by President Maia Sandu during talks with European leaders on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum international conference in Slovenia. The head of state is scheduled to meet European officials several times, according to a Presidency press release.

Today, Maia Sandu will participate in the public discussion on security in the region: "Global Challenges - Voices from the Youth".

At the meeting in Bled, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the European Union must be ready to welcome new Member States by 2030.

In June 2022, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine were granted candidate country status. The authorities in Chisinau hope to start EU accession negotiations by the end of this year.

Michel said that in order to join the EU bloc, future member states would have to implement reforms to ensure the independence of the judiciary, fight organised crime and corruption and align their foreign policy with EU member states.

The six Western Balkan countries - Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia - are at different stages of the EU accession process.

The Bled Strategic Forum takes place in 2023 under the theme "Solidarity for Global Security".

The Bled International Conference is a global platform for generating ideas and exchanging views on contemporary society and its future.

The Bled Strategic Forum is committed to creating a sustainable world, offering strategic visions and solutions to overcome the greatest challenges.
