Maia Sandu and Nataša Pirc Musar discuss strengthening bilateral relations
Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with her Slovenian counterpart, Nataša Pirc Musar, on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. Sandu expressed her solidarity with the Slovenian people affected by the recent floods and thanked the authorities for their support of Moldova's European integration.
“I had a very good conversation with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar at Bled,” Sandu wrote on her Facebook page.
The president noted that Slovenia is still dealing with the aftermath of the floods that occurred in early August.
“I expressed my solidarity with the Slovenian people affected by these unprecedented disasters. Climate change is a common challenge and we discussed ways to join forces to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects,” Sandu wrote.
The two presidents also discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of digitalization, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Sandu invited Pirc Musar to visit Moldova.
“In our discussions, I thanked President Pirc Musar for Slovenia's support in our European path and invited her to visit Moldova this autumn,” the president said.
Sandu is attending the Bled Strategic Forum, which is being held in Slovenia. The president has several meetings scheduled with European officials, according to a statement from the Presidency.
At the Bled meeting, European Council President Charles Michel said that the European Union must be prepared to welcome new member states by 2030.
In June 2022, Moldova and Ukraine were granted candidate status for EU membership. Authorities in Chisinau hope to start accession negotiations with the European Union by the end of this year.
