Exhibition celebrates 33 years of Romanian language magazine "Limba Română"
A retrospective exhibition of the 33 years of the "Limba Română" magazine was opened in Chișinău. The host of the event - the National Library - offers the public a selection of prose, articles and reviews by the great writers, philologists and historians who have contributed to the promotion of the Romanian language.
The science and culture magazine "Limba Română" has taken on the task of contributing to the revival of the Romanian language, the restoration of Romanian cultural values that were banned in Bessarabia for half a century.
"The "Limba Română" magazine embodied the fulfilment of the dream of the Bessarabians to speak openly and without fear in the name of their mother tongue, to promote the truth through a publication available to everyone. In all 33 years, "Limba Română" has been a publication that is honest, integral and incorruptible," says editor-in-chief Alexandru Bantoș.
Over the course of three decades, an impressive volume of studies, articles, communications, documents, reviews has been published, constituting an important source of information on the national, linguistic and cultural identity of the Bessarabian Romanians.
"The history of the Republic of Moldova is actually a history of resistance. This is a supreme truth because in fact, looking back at the history of this piece of land, it is one of resistance. The magazine Limba Română perfectly illustrates this," says critic and literary historian Ana Bantoș.
"It is an event that showcases this extraordinary magazine and I am even glad that this year we are talking about mechanisms to support the promotion of the Romanian language, the promotion of local authors," underlined Andrei Chistol, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture.
The science and culture magazine "Limba Română" was launched in the spring of 1991 in Chișinău, when the territory between the Prut and Dniester rivers was still part of the Soviet empire.
