Ukraine targets Crimea bridge again, Russia says
Russia said it shot down three Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea on Friday night, claiming they were targeting the Crimea Bridge, according to AFP.
"On September 2, at around 2:20 a.m. Moscow time, the third Ukrainian unmanned semi-submersible vessel was destroyed in the Black Sea, sent by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on the Crimea Bridge," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram.
On August 12, two Ukrainian missile attacks were thwarted over the strategic bridge in the Kerch Strait.
The bridge, built at great expense at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian attacks, according to news.ro.
A previous attack in July caused major damage to the road section of the bridge, which is also used to transport military equipment for the Russian army fighting in Ukraine.
The 18-kilometre concrete bridge, inaugurated in 2018 by Vladimir Putin, consists of two parallel structures, one for road traffic and the other for rail traffic.
Crimea itself is also regularly targeted by Ukrainian attacks.
