The attack, which lasted for more than three hours, used 25 Iranian-made Shahed attack drones. Twenty-two of the drones were shot down by Ukrainian air defences.

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the attack hit port infrastructure in the port of Ismail, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Two civilians were injured and received medical attention.

Ukrinform reported that the Russian attack on port infrastructure in Ismail destroyed 13,000 tons of grain.

Media in Romania also reported explosions in the Danube ports of Reni and Ismail, which could be heard from Romanian territory.

Both ports have been the target of Russian attacks before, the most recent on August 23.

Reni and Ismail are essential ports for Ukraine's grain exports, which the country is trying to export with the help of Romania.
