PAS, PSRM, and Renaștere neck-and-neck in Moldovan parliamentary polls

If early elections were held on Sunday, three parties would win seats in the Moldovan parliament, according to a poll released by the Barometrul Opiniei Publice, a public opinion survey conducted by the CBS Research company at the request of the Institute of Public Policy.

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) would win the most votes, with 24.3%. The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) would come in second with 13.1%, and the Renaissance Party would be the third party to enter parliament, with 8.6%.

More than 43% of respondents said they would not vote, did not know how they would vote, or did not answer the question.

The poll also found that, if early presidential elections were held on Sunday, incumbent President Maia Sandu would win with 29.4% of the vote.

Former President Igor Dodon would come in second with 18.4%, followed by Mayor of Chișinău Ion Ceban with 5.9% and Renato Usatîi, the leader of the Political Party "Our Party," with 5.4%.

Sandu is the most trusted politician in Moldova, with 19.8% of respondents saying they trust her.

Dodon is trusted by 6.9%, while fugitive businessman Ilan Șor, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for fraud, is trusted by 3.7%.

More than 45% of respondents said they do not trust any politician.

Regarding the direction of Moldova's integration, 47% of respondents said they want the country to join the European Union, while 32.7% said they want it to join the Eurasian Economic Union.

The poll was conducted from August 9 to August 23 on a sample of 1,215 people. The margin of error is ±3%.

The poll was authorised by the Central Election Commission.
