"We have increasingly close ties with the Netherlands, especially since the Dutch government decided to open an embassy in Chisinau in April - a signal of trust and solidarity," Sandu said.

She thanked Rutte for the Netherlands' support of Moldova's European path, saying that Moldova is counting on continued Dutch support in the initiation of EU accession negotiations.

"We discussed how we can increase trade and economic cooperation," Sandu said. "Yesterday, we took an important step in this direction - our foreign ministries signed the Protocol to amend the bilateral convention on the avoidance of double taxation on income and capital taxes. In October, we will organise a business forum for businesspeople from our countries."

Sandu also expressed her gratitude for Dutch development assistance in a number of key areas, including justice reform, good governance, human rights, press freedom, civil society support, and the energy and security sectors.

"Our country has reliable partners who support us through concrete projects and help us to build a strong and democratic state," Sandu said.
