Belgium's opening of embassy in Moldova seen as boost to ties

The opening of the Belgian Embassy in Moldova will boost both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, said Moldova's Ambassador to Brussels, Viorel Cibotaru, in an interview with Radio Moldova.

“The opening of the Belgian Embassy in Moldova will have an extremely positive impact on bilateral relations," said Viorel Cibotaru. "Secondly, the importance of our cooperation with Belgium in the multilateral plan in various international organisations will have an extremely serious impact on the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova, the accession to the EU. On the position of Belgium in several international organisations, a fact confirmed by several events in recent times.”

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Belgium were established in March 1992.

To date, 32 bilateral treaties have been signed, which regulate areas of cooperation, such as the promotion and protection of mutual investments, education and culture, labour, road transport, social security.
