Moldova to confiscate cars from drunk drivers, disqualified drivers

Drivers in Moldova who are caught driving while drunk or while disqualified from driving could lose their cars, the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) said in a statement.

“We would like to point out that, based on Order No. 310 of the IGP of September 4, 2023, the Instruction on the procedure for applying Article 439/7 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Moldova regarding the special confiscation of vehicles in the framework of the administrative procedure was approved,” the statement reads.

According to the source, special confiscation is applied by the court at the request of the police officer who issued the fine.

The police officer simply records the offence, and then must request the court to apply the safety measure - special confiscation of the vehicle.
