In a speech at the ceremony, Sandu said that the SIS is playing a vital role in protecting Moldova's security in the face of increasing threats.

"The brutal and large-scale war waged by Russia against Ukraine has brought back old threats to the European continent," Sandu said. "Climate change and new technologies are bringing new risks, with which we have not yet been confronted."

Sandu thanked the SIS for its efforts to disrupt criminal networks that are working to destabilise Moldova.

"In this complex and rapidly changing context, the informational support provided by the SIS will be crucial for us to adapt and reposition ourselves successfully in the new regional environment," Sandu said. "We are counting on the SIS's ability to anticipate, warn, and even prevent threats before they manifest themselves."

SIS Director Alexandru Musteața reiterated the institution's priorities, which are to improve performance, develop intelligence, operational, and technical capabilities, and anticipate, warn, and prevent threats.

"What we are building now will define us in time as a respected entity at the national and international levels," Musteața said.
