Pre-Vetting Commission resumes evaluation of 21 candidates
Chișinău, Moldova — The Pre-Vetting Commission has announced that it will resume the evaluation process for 21 candidates, after the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) upheld their appeals.
The 21 candidates have been notified of the resumption of the evaluation process.
The CSJ ruled on August 1 that the Pre-Vetting Commission's decisions were invalid, citing serious legal problems with both the substantive and procedural aspects of the process.
In response to the CSJ's ruling, the Pre-Vetting Commission has drafted and approved amendments to its Regulations of Organization and Functioning. These amendments allow the Commission to send candidates questions and requests for documents, as needed to clarify issues raised by the CSJ.
Candidates may also provide additional evidence in certain circumstances.
If concerns about a candidate are not resolved, the candidate will receive a notification from the Pre-Vetting Commission of the facts and serious doubts about their ethical or financial integrity. Candidates may respond to the notification in writing, and hearings will not be mandatory.
The Pre-Vetting Commission estimates that the re-evaluation of the 21 candidates could be completed in a few months.
