Romania finds Russian drone fragments near Ukraine border
Romanian military personnel found fragments of a drone similar to those used by the Russian army on Saturday, about 2.5 kilometres southeast of the village of Plauru in Tulcea County.
President Klaus Iohannis condemned the incident as an "absolutely unacceptable violation of Romania's sovereign airspace" and said he had spoken with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to inform him of the findings.
Stoltenberg said there was no indication of an intentional attack on NATO, but that the incident was "destabilising." He welcomed the decision by the United States to send more F-16s to Romania as part of the NATO air policing mission.
Iohannis said that the discovery of the drone fragments "poses a real risk to the security of Romanian citizens in the area." He reiterated his condemnation of Russia's attacks against Ukraine, which he said are "war crimes."
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense said that the fragments will be analysed by experts to determine their origin and purpose.

During the phone call 📞 I had today with @NATO Secretary General @jensstoltenberg, we discussed about the identification, by the Romanian 🇷🇴 authorities, on our soil of new drone parts, similar to those belonging to drones used by the Russian military.

Spoke to @KlausIohannis re Russian attacks on Ukraine by the Danube & drone parts found in #Romania. No indication of intent to hit #NATO, but the strikes are destabilising. I welcome the US decision to deploy more F-16s for NATO air policing. We stand in solidarity with Romania.
