Russian airstrike on Kyiv: Several explosions and drone debris
The Russian army launched an airstrike on Kyiv on Sunday morning, with several explosions heard in the Ukrainian capital and its surrounding region for nearly two hours, Ukrainian officials said, adding that several drone debris fell in several of the city's central neighbourhoods, Reuters reported, cited by RADOR.
Ukrainian Ground Forces said that air defence systems shot down 25 out of 32 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russian forces, most of which targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Some witnesses told Reuters that they heard at least five explosions in Kyiv, and images appearing in Ukrainian media show several damaged cars.
“The drones came over the capital in groups and from different directions,” said Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, on the Telegram messaging app.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that one person was injured in the historic Podil district and that a fire broke out near one of the city's parks.
Debris from the downed drones fell in the Darnitsky, Solomiansky, Shevchenkovskiy, Sviatoshinsky and Podil districts, Vitali Klitschko and the city's military administration said.
In the Shevchenkovskiy district, debris from drones triggered a fire in an apartment, which was quickly extinguished. There were no immediate reports of any casualties, Serhii Popko said on the Telegram messaging app.
There was no immediate comment on the attacks from the Russian military.
