Greece to benefit from aid of over 2.5 billion euros for the reconstruction of the country badly affected by fires and floods
Greece will receive more than 2.5 billion euros in aid for the reconstruction of the country badly affected by fires and floods. Present today in the plenary session of the Strasbourg Parliament, the president of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, explained that the financial support will be both for emergencies and for long-term reconstruction, reports Rador.
The amount can be drawn from the cohesion fund, from the European Social Fund, and through the Common Agricultural Policy. Another 400 million euros will come to Greece from the Solidarity Fund, as well as from the Next Generation funds.
"We have decided to form a crisis cell in which the Commission's and Greece's teams will start working today. Together we will find the best ways to help the population. Greece can count on the European Union because we will deliver this aid quickly and flexibly. We are with Greece not only in these moments, but also in the future, to rebuild what was lost", said the President of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen.
According to Radio Romania News, the head of the European executive also announced that she asked the member states to increase the amounts for the Solidarity Fund.
