Romania protests Russian drone violation of airspace

Romania has protested the Russian military's violation of its airspace for the third time in recent weeks. The protest was delivered to the Russian ambassador to Romania on Wednesday, following the discovery of new drone fragments in the Tulcea region, near the border with Ukraine.

The fragments were determined to be from a type of drone used by the Russian military in Ukraine. Romania's Ministry of Defense condemned the attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, which it said were in violation of international law.

The Russian government has denied responsibility for the drone fragments, calling the accusations "a disinformation campaign."

NATO Reaffirms Support for Romania

NATO's interim spokesperson, Dylan White, reiterated the alliance's support for Romania in the wake of the drone incidents.

"The Romanian ambassador informed NATO allies about the repeated Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure near Romania at a regular meeting of the North Atlantic Council today," White said. "He also informed allies that fragments of drones similar to those used by Russia have been identified on Romanian territory for the third time. NATO stands in solidarity with our ally, Romania. The Secretary General spoke with President Iohannis over the weekend. We continue to monitor the situation in close contact with Romanian authorities."
