"We appreciate the long-standing strategic partnership and close relations between Moldova and the United States," Sandu said in a statement after the meeting. "As Moldova consolidates its democracy, we are committed to working together to address common challenges and promote shared values."

In addition to meeting with Biden, Sandu also held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and USAID Administrator Samantha Power. She discussed Moldova's progress on reforms in the justice sector and its efforts to revive the economy.

The United States and Moldova have a long history of cooperation. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992, and the United States has provided Moldova with significant assistance in the areas of democracy, governance, and economic development.
