CSM member Iulian Muntean contemplates resignation amidst corruption scandal
In a recent development, the newly appointed member of the Consiliul Superior al Magistraturii (CSM), Iulian Muntean, who failed to inform the Pre-Vetting Commission of an ongoing criminal investigation, has hinted at the possibility of resigning.
This comes in the wake of a corruption scandal implicating Muntean and a call for his resignation by the Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
"To avoid compromising the CSM's work, I believe I will submit my resignation request to the Parliament's Secretariat," wrote the CSM's newest member on his Facebook page.
Just two days ago, the media reported that CSM member Iulian Muntean is allegedly involved in a corruption case, despite passing through the Pre-Vetting Commission. Muntean has claimed that the case is, in fact, a fabrication orchestrated by the former PDM leader, Vladimir Plahotniuc.
On the other hand, the Pre-Vetting Commission asserts that they were not provided with any information regarding investigations or criminal proceedings involving Iulian Muntean.
