Arina Spătaru, leader of ALDE, claims she was undercover agent in Șor investigation
Former Moldovan lawmaker Arina Spătaru, who is now the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (ALDE), has claimed that she was an undercover agent in an operation by the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) to expose Ilan Șor, a fugitive businessman and politician.
In a press conference on Friday, Spătaru said that she had been working with SIS since April to infiltrate Șor's group and gather evidence of his illegal activities. She said that she had met with Șor in Israel and that he had offered her money to help him create a new political party that would be loyal to him.
Spătaru said that she refused to cooperate with Șor and that she provided SIS with information that led to the arrest of two of his associates, Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi.
Șor has denied Spătaru's allegations, calling them "sensational" and "libellous." He said that Spătaru had been seeking a meeting with him for months and that she had been critical of President Maia Sandu.
