Moldovan authorities cannot investigate missile fragments found in Transnistria

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that her government cannot investigate the discovery of missile fragments in the separatist-controlled region of Transnistria.

“We have the same information that the state institutions have announced, including the Ministry of Defense,” Sandu said in an interview with TV8. “Of course, we cannot verify what happened on the spot. Because everything happened on the territory of the Transnistrian region, where our authorities cannot investigate what happened.”

Sandu said the incident was likely caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine. “This is clear to everyone,” she said.

The remains of a S-300 missile were reportedly found in the village of Chițcani in the Căușeni district, a village controlled by the Transnistrian regime. The announcement was made by Oleg Beliakov, Tiraspol’s representative in the Joint Control Commission, vice-president of the Commission.

The spokesperson for the Prime Minister, Daniel Vodă, told Moldova 1 that military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces have been deployed to the scene. At this stage, the origin of the identified object is not clear, and the trajectory is not confirmed from independent sources. The state authorities assure that, following the verification of the facts, they will continue to inform the public about this incident.
