DDoS attacks target Moldovan government websites
In the past week, there has been an increase in cyber attacks on several websites, the Government of the Republic of Moldova announced.
These attacks, in the form of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, have targeted the websites of the Chisinau International Airport, the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAIE), said the Government's spokesperson, Daniel Voda.
"Based on the latest example (MFAIE), I want to mention that in the period from midnight to the afternoon of today, there were over 36 million accesses to this platform from different geographic regions, but cybersecurity officials have dealt with it and minimized the impact of these actions," Voda said.
According to him, the attacks involved a very large number of requests, usually from outside the country, which were aimed at blocking a server or a web platform.
"It is important to clarify that this is not a cyber attack on critical infrastructure in our country, as has been rumoured in the public space. This infrastructure is protected by the responsible institutions of the country," the spokesperson said.
The Government also recommends that representatives of the private sector pay increased attention to cybersecurity in companies, strengthen corporate networks, and consider measures to protect web servers recommended by different industries.
The clarifications come after the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service confirmed on Monday, September 25, the recording of a cyber attack on the information sources of service providers in the field.
