The special representative of Ukraine on the Transnistrian issue was dismissed. Mihailo Podoleak: There will be no vacuum in the Transnistrian problem

Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the special representative of Ukraine for the Transnistrian settlement, Yuriy Klimenko. The decree was signed on December 26.

On the same day, Klimenko was appointed by presidential decree as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Argentina. Iuri Klimenko held the position of Kyiv's special representative for the Transnistrian settlement since February 8. Previously, he was a permanent representative of Ukraine at the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, worked in the presidential administration and was the ambassador of Ukraine to Spain, Greece, the USA and the Benelux countries.

According to the presidential advisor Mihailo Podoliak, there will be no vacuum in the Transnistrian issue, especially considering today's realities and Russia's aggressive behavior. Other diplomats will continue to work in this direction, Podoliak told Moldova 1. "Klimenko is undoubtedly a very experienced and professional diplomat which was extremely effective in the "Transnistrian direction". The current dismissal is only related to the president's decision to suddenly intensify work in the region of the so-called Global South. Klimenko was appointed ambassador to Argentina, where there has been no ambassador for a long time," said Podoliak, stating that there is no double meaning in the decision to dismiss Iuri Klimenko. We remind that Ukraine is a mediator in the Transnistrian settlement in the "5+2" format, in which Chisinau and Tiraspol participate as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine and OSCE - are mediators, and the USA and the European Union - observers. Currently, the "5+2" format is not functional, as two mediators - the Russian Federation and Ukraine - are involved in the war.
