Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemns attacks on Israel

Moldovan President Maia Sandu on Saturday condemned attacks on Israel after dozens of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into the country.

"I am shocked by the ongoing attack on Israel," Sandu wrote on her social media account. "I condemn the mass violence against innocent civilians. My thoughts are with Israel and all those who are defending themselves against these ruthless attacks."

Prime Minister Dorin Recean also condemned the attacks, writing on social media that "the Republic of Moldova stands in solidarity with Israel following the massive attacks on the Israeli people. The brutal violence against innocent civilians must stop. In these difficult moments for the Israeli people, we are united against terrorism."

Dozens of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Saturday morning. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they were mobilizing troops and declaring a "state of war alert." The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said that he would meet with senior security officials.

The attacks come amid a recent escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas, the militant group that controls the Gaza Strip. The IDF has carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in response to rocket attacks from the territory.
