Egypt: Police officer kills two Israeli tourists, one Egyptian
Two Israeli tourists and one Egyptian were killed on Sunday by a police officer in Alexandria, Egypt, according to a media outlet close to the security apparatus, amid the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Agence France-Presse reported.
“A police officer in Alexandria opened fire indiscriminately with his personal weapon on a group of Israeli tourists (...). Two tourists were killed, as well as an Egyptian, and the police officer was arrested,” Extra News television reported, citing a “security source.”
Egypt, a neighbour of Israel and an essential mediator in every new outbreak of violence between Israel and Gaza, with which it also shares a border, was the first Arab country to normalise relations with Israel in 1979.
