Several Moldovan MPs participate in the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova participates in the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The meeting takes place in Strasbourg, between October 9-13.

The agenda of the meeting includes debates on several current topics, including ensuring peace in Ukraine and sustainable security in Europe, discussions on the death of migrants at sea, the humanitarian situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, reads a statement of the Communication and Public Relations Directorate of the Parliament.

The parliamentarians will subject to debates and the periodic review of the honoring of the obligations of membership of the Council of Europe by France, the report examining the legitimacy and legality of the ad hominem derogation from the deadline of the mandate of the president in office of the Russian Federation, as well as the report on the observation of early parliamentary elections from Montenegro.

Among the topics covered in the autumn session are those related to the role of the Council of Europe in preventing conflicts, restoring the credibility of international institutions and promoting global peace; the challenges of far-right ideology for democracy and human rights in Europe; the Pegasus software, similar spy products and secret state surveillance, reads the quoted source.

Other topics cover migration and asylum in election campaigns and the consequences for migrants' rights; preventing and combating violence against women with disabilities. The topic of the impact of the fight against Covid-19 on the mental health of minors and young people, as well as the prevention of addictive behaviors in children, will also be examined.

The parliamentarians will hear the report on the activity of the executive body of the Council of Europe, presented by the president of the Committee of Ministers, the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš, as well as they will have an exchange of views with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the European Commissioner for justice, Didier Reynders.

At the same time, in a special ceremony, the "Václav Havel" prize in the field of human rights for the year 2023 is to be awarded. The Moldovan parliamentary delegation includes the head of the national delegation to PACE, the vice-president of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission, Ion Groza, the vice-president of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi, the vice-president of the Human Rights and Inter-Ethnic Relations Commission, Natalia Davidovici and the secretary of the National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission , Constantin Starîș.
