Moldova police arrest six for thefts from safes
The Moldovan police announced on Thursday that they had arrested six members of a criminal gang that stole from safes in businesses. The total value of the stolen money exceeded two million lei, the police said.
According to the police, the gang operated in several districts of Moldova, particularly Ialoveni.
"During searches at the suspects' homes and vehicles, we seized cash, metal crowbars, secure communication devices, and other stolen goods," the police said in a statement.
One suspect was arrested after hiding during the searches and trying to flee Moldova.
The police said that some of the gang members are also charged in a criminal case for similar offences that are currently under investigation.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Police, the Ialoveni and Hîncești Police Inspectorates, in conjunction with the Ialoveni District Prosecutor's Office, with the support of the "Fulger" Special Operations Brigade.
Prosecutors have requested the preventive arrest of the six gang members.
