The visit comes just days after the European Parliament voted a Resolution recommending the start of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union by the end of this year.

Von der Leyen is scheduled to meet with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean to discuss the continuation of the EU bloc's support for Moldova. The two officials will also hold a joint press conference.

Foreign policy analyst Mihai Isac told Radio Moldova that the visit is a clear sign of the EU's full support for the constitutional authorities in Chisinau. He added that the visit could result in new agreements and the attraction of external funds, especially in the context of the upcoming Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova on October 17.

"The visit comes to reiterate the full support enjoyed by Chisinau from the European partners for the implementation of the reforms necessary to improve the lives of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the accession to the European Union," Isac said.

This is von der Leyen's second visit to Moldova this year. She previously visited the country in May to participate in the Summit of the European Political Community.
