EU to provide Moldova with €105 million in additional funding

The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Dumitru Alaiba, Moldova's Minister of Development, and Gert Jan Koopman, the director-general of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Dumitru Alaiba, Moldova's Minister of Development, and Gert Jan Koopman, the director-general of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

"This is a significant step in our partnership with the European Union," Alaiba said in a statement. "These funds will help us to address the challenges we face, including the war in Ukraine and the rising cost of energy."

The €105 million in additional funding is part of a €250 million package of assistance announced by the European Union last year. The package includes funds for a variety of projects, including support for the Moldovan government, the economy, and the energy sector.

The signing of the agreement took place during a visit to Chisinau by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. In a speech to the Moldovan parliament, von der Leyen said that the European Union is committed to supporting Moldova's European aspirations.
