NATO responds to drone сrash in Romania
NATO Secretary General Deputy Mircea Geoană said on Thursday that the alliance is taking steps to protect its territory, including in the sensitive area of Romania where a drone crashed accidentally on Thursday morning.
The drone crashed in a wooded area near the right bank of the Chilia branch of the Danube River, about 3 kilometres west of the village of Plauru, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
Geoană said that NATO is working with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey to demine the Black Sea, which is essential to keep economic corridors free of risk and to ensure trade and free movement in the region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited Romania on Tuesday, also attended a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels on Thursday. The group discussed how NATO can continue to support Ukraine, including its immediate needs to protect civilian infrastructure in the Danube and Black Sea regions and to provide military equipment for the Ukrainian offensive.
