Leaders from several Arab and European countries will meet in Egypt to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip
Leaders and foreign ministers from many Arab and European countries are to meet in Egypt on Saturday to discuss the crisis in the Gaza Strip, the BBC reports. Participants include Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan's King Abdullah, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
This hastily arranged summit comes amid growing fears about the stability of the entire Middle East. Arab leaders are outraged by the civilian suffering caused by Israeli reprisals in the Gaza Strip and want the world to pay due attention to resolving the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, there are very important countries that are not participating in the summit, including Israel and Iran.
The meeting comes as Israel prepares a ground attack on Gaza following the October 7 attack by Hamas that killed 1,400 people. More than 4,100 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's counteroffensive amid a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
